Geocaching is a semi-popular hobby which involves a GPS and containers hidden in pre-determined coordinates around the world. You use the GPS to find the coordinates to a cache and when you get there, you have to look around for it. When you do find it, there is a log and possibly some items in it (depending on the size). You sign in the log including your name and the date. If you brought some items of your own, you can trade one or more of your items for one in the cache. Then you put it back where you found it for the next person.
We have found a few in Phoenix so far. There was 3 near home (we only found two though) and there was some more in other areas. They are usually small (one was smaller than a tangerine), but they can be pretty large sometimes (about the size of a milk carton). They're almost always well hidden, and sometimes people put pretty good stuff in there. Once we found a dollar in a cache, but usually it's toys (especially plastic soldiers, you will see a lot of those).
The log which you're supposed to sign.
